Well, here we are again, and another week has gone by, and it was one of business and busyness. I returned from my amazing Icelandic experience, both professionally and personally and went right to work for my clientele, which is a wonderful thing, but also jumped right into my part time gig here in New England. No time for jetlag and just in time for another round across the pond. I almost feel like I am back in 2019, BC, when I was on the road most of the year. Of course, this is not 2019 and no, I have not been on the road most of the year, although, it has been one heck of year so far and from my perspective, while still very complicated, a year ending in positivity.
I have been very lucky in a lot of ways and by no means am I or the world out of the woods when it comes to Covid. It will be around in its many forms for years to come, but with the world moving forward, it will become less of an issue as time moves on. I have shared with you my many experiences in relation to Covid and commiserated with colleagues, friends, and family throughout this pandemic. I am still here and plan to be here for a long time going forward.
I have been very lucky to have people around me, especially in the past several months who are understanding of my situation, of which I hold responsibility, but also of which, in certain cases, have no control. I also have tried to be very understanding of their situations that have impacted their lives and indirectly mine. All will be addressed in due course. The dealings with the bureaucracy, which we all must address at one time, or another continues to rear its ugly head and while perhaps, when I was in my 30’s and 40’s, would have become angry and quite frustrated, handle it better now as I creep up on 60. Time is too precious to expend angry energy on things you can’t control.
As Billy Joel so eloquently stated in his song, “Angry Young Man”,
I believe I've passed the age of consciousness and righteous rage
I found that just surviving was a noble fight
I once believed in causes too
I had my pointless point of view
And life went on no matter who was wrong or right
And I am there. Yes, I still get angry at times and frustrated at times, but I have found that just surviving is a noble fight and life is too short to dwell on things you can’t control. I have found happiness and love in the horror that is this pandemic and I plan on holding onto that for as long as I can and my physical health has, as you know gotten much better. I am sure that while right now, there is some smooth sailing, there will always be tumultuous events that disrupt the tranquility and stability, but that is life, and it is not smooth, and it is filled with bumps in the road. If you thought life was going to be easy, please have yourself checked out. Everyday brings reality checks that challenge us. It is how we handle them and at least for now, I am doing a better job.

On Wednesday, I am flying across the pond; this time to London for 3 days for a conference in which I have some amazing meetings set up with colleagues to establish and re-establish business partnerships or potential business partnerships, so that I can better ably assist my valued clientele on their travel adventures. Then, I am back to where my heart is, Rome and spending a week there. It has been since June that I was there, and I said I would return. I hope the time between each reunion gets shorter and shorter. It was first 16 months, and now 5 months. Who knows? Maybe now that the US will allow vaccinated EU citizens to come into the US, starting sometime in November, that she will fly across the pond in the next few months. I certainly hope so, but one step at a time. Where I will be, who knows, but for now, I am taking life one day at a time and enjoying every moment I have, since there are no guarantees.
As always, I am interested in your thoughts, comments, questions and adding to the discourse is always appreciated be in on the site itself or on Facebook, Twitter or wherever you read this. Thank you for your support of this small business and it is truly appreciated!!!

Wow, that is all I can say, wow!!! The second week in Iceland was amazing as I expected it would be. While the weather did not let me do my scheduled zipline, I did a new zipline experience and re-visited some places, people, and the cutest birds around in the second week. It was a very full week and one I am glad I had. The week started, or shall I say, the first week started getting up in the saddle for the first time in 50 years and riding an amazing white Icelandic horse. He was a very handsome creature, and very strong, especially when he wanted his snack time along the trail. As with my first time doing the zip line, I want to do this again and I believe I am ready to get out of the slow lane. They are so docile and a true joy to ride. The day was crisp and cool and bright and sunny, and I can’t say enough about my colleagues at Is-Hestar, they were great. There are other horse-riding experiences as well and would absolutely recommend the experience. Enjoying the rest of the day experiencing Reykjavik before my food tour was wonderful, just wandering around.

It has been an amazing week here in the Land of Fire and Ice and returning here after 2 years has brought my passion for this destination back into focus. I have met new people, both in business and personal encounters and re-connected in person with colleagues who I had not seen in these past few years, a direct result of the pandemic. Going through the immigration process along with the Covid protocol enlightened me and it seemed to work rather well, so if you are prepared for the process, having all your documentation, you should be fine.
My time here a week ago, started with a re-connection with a very good friend, Sven, who resides here in Iceland, now for many years, but is originally from Germany, so it was nice to hang out and experience some of the island and just catching up for the day at which time, I was dropped off at the airport and met up with my group and off we were to the Snaefellsness Peninsula, a destination here in Iceland I had not been to in over 15 years, so in effect, it was a new experience, both in the places we explored, but the time of year, and for the record, the Snaefellsness, is where I saw my first puffins here in Iceland, in the wild, those many years ago. Other experiences, I had included hiking into a lava tube cave, which was certainly an experience and one I do recommend, but the landscape, and no I did not see the glacier, always covered by cloud cover, and the weather, did not deter from having a wonderful time. One of the other highlights was going out on the boat and having the Viking sushi experience.

The Wandering Puffin has arrived back in the “homeland”, and it has been, as part of the start of my 15th year in business, very exciting. It is different though, and yes, it has been a couple of years since I was last here in Iceland. The landscape has not really changed.  The nature has been spectacular and yesterday, re-connecting with a friend and colleague was wonderful. Spent time in the west and today with my group of colleagues in the industry, spent time, seeing amazing things like a lava tube cave and other wonderful aspects of the Snaefellsness Peninsula, a place I had not been in about 15 years.  The feeling is different because of the pandemic and I don’t know whether it is Iceland, myself or a combination of both. Iceland still holds a place dear to my heart, even in this 19th time here, but again, it is different and I know that Covid has played a part in my thoughts across the board.
