Welcome back to the blog (still waiting on that perfect name—your feedback counts!). I’m Jamie, your travel advisor behind Wandering Puffin LLC, and this week marks an exciting new chapter for us. After a short pause to reflect and regroup, I’m thrilled to relaunch with fresh energy and a focus on sharing what it truly means to be a professional travel advisor—the joys, challenges, and adventures of this incredible industry. France - Seine and Marne Region You might think our job is simply booking trips (and yes, we do plenty of that!). But after nearly 30 years in the business, I know travel planning is an art: a blend of deep knowledge, strong connections, and genuine passion. From crafting complex itineraries, uncovering hidden gems, to troubleshooting last-minute curveballs, being a travel advisor means being part artist, part detective, and full-time dream maker. Even in the age of online booking, nothing replaces thoughtful, personalized guidance—and having a person to navigate you through what is truly a process. Wandering Puffin just stepped into its 19th year on September 29, and we’ve weathered many travel landscapes—domestic, international, and everything in between. I’ve traveled extensively myself (and now operate from the Old World, having emigrated July 4, 2024)—because firsthand knowledge of destinations and experiences is essential. Sure, you can look up facts and figures online; but travel is about education, connection, and lived experience that goes far beyond a screen. France - Seine and Marne Region Meeting passionate local partners, exchanging ideas face-to-face, and building trusted relationships—these are things AI and online searches cannot replace. Most importantly, we serve as your trusted advisors, your fiduciaries, and your partners through every step. Planning travel isn’t just a transaction; it’s a responsibility. We handle your hard-earned savings with care, bringing you unforgettable experiences you can truly count on. Many people ask, “Why use a travel advisor? I can book online myself, find cheaper options, or use Airbnb.” Sometimes that’s true. But often, it’s not the whole picture. We have access to exclusive avenues and trusted partners. We anticipate and solve problems before they happen. When you travel on your own, you’re truly on your own. With a professional advisor, you have an advocate throughout your journey. We’re not order takers simply expanding trips; we craft experiences perfectly tailored to your unique style. No two trips are alike. Helsinki Finland and the Lapland We’re professionals, like accountants or lawyers—earning certifications such as Verified or Certified Travel Advisor. We attend ongoing education and international meetings to stay ahead. Yes, we enjoy the work, but behind every smooth trip is extensive effort. When you return home with memories to cherish, know that countless moving pieces have aligned, thanks to expert planning you don’t see. Booking a flight might seem simple, but if something goes wrong, who handles it? Solo travelers do; with an advisor, we do. The more complex the trip, the more opportunities for hiccups—and that’s where experience turns challenges into solutions. We find the best value by coordinating every detail with your best interests at heart. Sometimes that value comes with a higher price tag—but the peace of mind is priceless. Swedish Lapland Finding the right balance between cost and your travel dreams is the heart of what I do. It’s not just booking tickets; it’s managing all the paperwork, keeping track of industry changes, weather, regulations, safety, and world events that impact your travel every day. Looking ahead, I’ll be sharing fresh stories and vibrant photos from recent travels to France, Sweden, Finland, plus insights from my ongoing conference and trade show in Croatia—places that inspire me and fuel the work I do for you. I’ll also highlight unique partner offerings worldwide and keep you posted on important travel updates. Croatia So buckle up, friends! Travel is an adventure, and together we’ll experience it in all its wonder. The blog title might soon change, so please share your thoughts—I’d love your input. At Wandering Puffin, we’re not order takers; we’re dedicated professionals who take this work seriously. We have fun, certainly, but after 29 years, my commitment to your amazing journeys remains steadfast. Thank you for your support over the years—I can’t wait to share weekly stories and grow this travel family. Whether you’re a fellow travel professional, a seasoned traveler, or just curious about what happens behind the scenes, I’d love to hear your thoughts! Collaboration and idea-sharing with colleagues is a powerful part of what I do as a travel professional, and your insights are always welcome. Please share your ideas for the blog name, travel questions, or stories of your own adventures. Let’s keep the conversation going—because travel truly is an adventure best shared.
